A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick


Whereas Caribbean Americans continue to be a vital part of the Commonwealth’s rich culture by contributing significantly to all aspects of daily life, including education, medicine, commerce, trade, agriculture, public service and technology; and

Whereas Thousands of Caribbean Americans have made Massachusetts their home, representing many nations and ethnicities with their unique language, culture and experience; and

Whereas Their cultural and artistic legacy is renowned throughout the world; and

Whereas Throughout the month of August, many people of Caribbean descent around the world and in our Commonwealth gather to celebrate their cultural identity.

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim August 25-31, 2013, to be

Caribbean Week

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-fourth day of July, in the year thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-seventh.
