Commonwealth of Massachusetts A Proclamation His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas The theme of Consumer Protection Week is “Information Destination,” highlighting consumer education in areas such as identity protection, money management, credit, debt as well as fraud and scams; and
Whereas The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation’s mission includes creating “smarter consumers” who are knowledgeable about consumer issues; and
Whereas There is a continued need to extend financial learning and consumer education across all generations – particularly children and young adults; and
Whereas The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation has created Project Credit Smarts, a college-focused credit and debit education program with participation from a number of partners, including the Massachusetts Bankers Association; and
Whereas The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation has also created “Save Money! Bank on it”, a program which was designed to increase awareness of available financial services for young adults and families all across the Commonwealth; and
Whereas On this day, the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation celebrates Consumer Protection Week with a state-wide Conference ,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick,Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim April 9, 2013, to be
CONSUMER PROTECTION DAY
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
