A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Massachusetts is blessed with thousands of individuals of good will and good works who play significant roles in affecting positive change in the lives of others through volunteerism; and

Whereas For more than 90 years, United Way of Central Massachusetts has connected thousands of volunteers with organizations, resources, community leaders and state agencies to promote and facilitate volunteering activities across the Commonwealth; and 

Whereas The opportunity to volunteer helps to create strong bonds between the volunteers and their communities; and

Whereas Volunteering teaches our youth important values such as compassion, empathy, gratitude and community responsibility; and

Whereas United Way of Central Massachusetts continues be dedicated to meliorating the lives of people in the Commonwealth by promoting the importance and value of volunteerism and solidarity; and

Whereas All volunteers should be commended for their philanthropy and encouraged to sustain growth in partnership with government as together we seek to enhance the quality of life for all our citizens,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim September 12, 2013 to be,

Day of Caring

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-seventh day of August, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-seventh.
