A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas The Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is based on a belief in freedom and equality for all individuals and in the duty of Government to safeguard and foster these rights;

Whereas Massachusetts Executive Order 526 acknowledges the many efforts and accomplishments of the past while recognizing the Commonwealth can and must do more to ensure that non-discrimination, diversity and equal opportunity are safeguarded, promoted, and reflected in state workplaces; and

Whereas The success of a company in the 21st century depends on its ability to maintain a workforce that mirrors the diverse community it serves; and

Whereas Celebrating, respecting and embracing cultural differences and similarities can help employees and benefit employers by forming an environment of inclusion; and

Whereas Businesses, government, and all other organizations can develop and implement strategies to foster an open and accepting working environment,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim May 8th, 2013, to be,

Diversity Employment Day

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this second day of February, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
