Commonwealth of Massachusetts A Proclamation His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas Two hundred and thirty-six years ago, the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution, designating the flag to “be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation”; and
WhereasOur national flag is an enduring symbol of our history and the ideal of liberty and justice for all; and
WhereasWe honor the brave men and women, from the Continental Army to our troops around the world today, who defended the flag and all that it represents; and
Whereas Old Glory is the embodiment the Founding Fathers’ dreams of unity and freedom that laid foundation to this great nation,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick,Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim June 14th, 2013, to be,
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-ninth day of May, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
