A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Tuesday, January 12th, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake struck the Island of Haiti causing extraordinary devastation and significant loss of life; and

Whereas Massachusetts is home to a large number of Haitians and the Haitian community in Massachusetts was severely affected by this natural disaster; and

Whereas The Haiti Interfaith Action Network, a coalition of faith communities, community-based organizations, and campuses throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been committed to supporting Haiti and Haitian Americans in their efforts to rebuild their nation; and

Whereas On January 12, 2012 we pause in observance of the 2nd anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti, and remember those who perished on that day;

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim January 12th-February 11th , 2012, to be

Haiti Earthquake Remembrance Month 

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twelfth day of January, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
