A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick


Whereas Correctional Officers and employees are responsible for the maintenance, oversight and facilitation of 18 maximum, medium, minimum and pre-release institutions; and

Whereas Correctional Officers and employees provide for care, custody and control of more than 11,000 criminally sentenced inmates; and

Whereas These workers play an integral part in promoting public safety by managing offenders by providing care and appropriate programming; and

Whereas Correctional Officers and employees endeavor to provide a healing environment where offenders can safely pursue programming and educational opportunities in order to facilitate their successful reentry back to society; and

Whereas It is fitting to recognize Correctional Officers and Employees for their tireless service in potentially hazardous environments as well as the sacrifices they make to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth, 

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2013, to be,


And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
