Commonwealth of Massachusetts A Proclamation His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas The art of puppetry enriches the lives of children and adults, and provides a unique opportunity for creative expression; and
Whereas Massachusetts is home to two of New England’s oldest and most prominent organizations devoted to the art of puppetry, the Puppet Showplace Theatre and the Boston Area Guild of Puppetry; and
Whereas The Puppet Showplace Theatre, a non-profit organization, has been a continuous program of high-quality performances since 1974 as the first and only year-round puppet theater in Massachusetts and New England, and one of the four oldest puppet theaters in the United States; and
Whereas The Boston Area Guild of Puppetry, a chartered guild of the Puppeteers of America since 1961, has provided puppeteers and puppet enthusiasts with the opportunity for collaboration and education; and
Whereas The Puppeteers of America, Inc., a national non profit corporation founded in 1937, has declared April 27, 2013, to be National Day of Puppetry; and
Whereas Puppet shows, exhibits and puppetry workshops will take place at the Puppet Showplace Theatre in Brookline, as well as festivals, exhibits and other puppetry activities throughout the nation,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick,Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim April 27, 2013, to be
MASSACHUSETTS DAY OF PUPPETRY
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this third day of April in the year thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
