Commonwealth of Massachusetts
A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Despite advances in medical technology and research, men continue to live an average of six years less than women with African American men having the lowest life expectancy; and

Whereas Significant numbers of male-related health problems such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and colon cancer can be detected and treated if the awareness of these afflictions were increased; and

Whereas This week strives to raise public awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, of early detection and treatment of health problems affecting men and their families; and

Whereas Men who are educated about the value of preventative health will be more likely to participate in health screening; and

Whereas Men’s health remains a priority for families, communities, and government, and our commitment to keeping men healthy is stronger than ever,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim June 10-16, 2013, to be,

MEN'S HEALTH WEEK

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-first day of May, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.

By His Excellency

Deval L. Patrick
Governor of the Commonwealth

William Francis Galvin
Secretary of the Commonwealth

God Save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
