Commonwealth of Massachusetts
A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas For over two-hundred years the men and women of America’s Armed Forces have been supported from near and far by their spouses in both times of war and peace; and

Whereas Since the Revolutionary War, military spouses have sacrificed and overcome challenging circumstances such as raising children alone, caring for wounded soldiers upon their return and carrying on the legacy of those soldiers that have passed; and

Whereas While service members are protecting our values and ideals abroad, military spouses are helping to protect them at home, and while we recognize and honor the commitment and service of our soldiers, we must not forget to honor and acknowledge our military spouses; and

Whereas It is important to recognize the irreplaceable  role that military spouses play both in society, to their families and for the Armed Forces,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim May 10, 2013, to be,

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this eighth day of May, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.

By His Excellency

Deval L. Patrick
Governor of the Commonwealth

William Francis Galvin
Secretary of the Commonwealth

God Save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
