A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick


Whereas Social enterprises are businesses whose primary purpose is the common good, and they seek to use the methods and disciplines of business and the power of the marketplace to advance social, environmental, and human justice agendas; and

Whereas These organizations address an intractable social need and serves the common good, either through their products and services, or through the number of disadvantaged people it employs; and

Whereas Social enterprises provide a unique avenue of assistance to people across the Commonwealth, the country, and the world; and

Whereas The theme of this year’s Social Enterprise Week is Building an Economy on Purpose and will help ensure that Massachusetts is an optimal environment in which social enterprises can start and thrive, 

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim May 20-26, 2013, to be,


And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this fourteenth day of May, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
