Commonwealth of Massachusetts
A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas All citizens regardless of race, creed or ethnicity deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, compassion and justice; and

Whereas Each act of racism or discrimination is one too many; and

Whereas The elimination of racism can be achieved only with the participation of all citizens in dialogue, reflection and action; and

Whereas Our shared goal is to advocate for increased awareness of the lasting and continued negative effects of racism in our communities, institutions and personal relationships; and

Whereas The YWCA(s) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, along with engaged businesses, community organizations, schools, municipalities and places of worship will take a lead role by hosting events across the Commonwealth that will celebrate diversity and advocate for the elimination of racism,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim April 26, 2013, to be

STAND AGAINST RACISM DAY

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this third day of April, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.

By His Excellency

Deval L. Patrick
