A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick


Whereas The Republic of Turkey was founded on October 29th, 1923; and

Whereas Turkish Americans continue to be a vital part of the Commonwealth’s rich diversity by contributing significantly to all aspects of daily life, including education, medicine, commerce, agriculture, public service and technology; and

Whereas The Turkish American Cultural Society of New England, Inc., representing Turkish Americans in Massachusetts is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey; and

Whereas The 18th Annual Boston Turkish Festival, held from October 29th to December 15th, brings together people to celebrate and share in the Turkish culture and community; and

Whereas Massachusetts residents of Turkish descent  generously supported the relief effort of the 1999
Earthquake in Turkey, which threatened the well-being of the region’s largest country and economy; and

Whereas It is appropriate that all residents recognize Turkish Americans for their many contributions to the cities and towns across our Commonwealth,

 

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim October 29th, 2013, to be

Turkish Republic Day 

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this eighth day of October, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-seventh.
