A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick


Whereas The wetlands of Massachusetts have been vital to the prosperity of the Commonwealth by sustaining communities with an ample and varied food supply; and

Whereas Wetlands help clean drinking water supplies, prevent flooding and storm damage, and support a variety of wildlife; and

Whereas The Wetlands Protection Act protects wetlands and the public interests they serve, including flood control, prevention of pollution and storm damage, and protection of public and private water supplies, groundwater supply, fisheries, land containing shellfish, and wildlife habitat; and

Whereas The economic health of many of our industries – from forestry to fisheries to cranberries – depends on wetlands; and

Whereas The Commonwealth recognizes the importance of protecting and restoring our wetlands of all types,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim May 2013, to be,


And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-third day of May, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
