GOVERNOR PATRICK ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT IN CHINA TO BOOST COLLABORATION IN THE MEDICAL DEVICE INDUSTRY
Massachusetts and China Medical Device Industries to Share Information and Technology
The announcement comes as Governor Patrick leads a trade mission this week in China. "Opportunities like these are exactly why we came to China," said Governor Patrick.
Leaders from MassMEDIC and CAMDI agreed to formalize their shared interest to build and strengthen the collaboration and exchanges between the medical device clusters found in Massachusetts and throughout China.
"The China market offers tremendous potential for Massachusetts' medical device manufacturers," said Thomas J. Sommer, President of MassMEDIC. "Today's agreement with CAMDI will help our medtech companies access this market through this influential organization. Governor Patrick's involvement in formalizing the partnership sends a clear signal that state government is serious about supporting trade and global partnerships in medical technology."
Key Collaborative Areas
Leaders from MassMEDIC and CAMDI agreed to promote collaborations between industry leaders in both Massachusetts and China in areas including medical devices and instrumentation; surgical appliances and supplies; electromedical, X-Ray and imaging equipment; in-vitro diagnostics; ophthalmic and orthopedic goods; dental goods; and medical device software.
Information and Technology Exchange
Both organizations will regularly communicate and exchange information on developments in the industry, as well as encourage professional and technology exchange; provide study, training and visiting opportunities for professionals; and enhance collaborations between research institutes, teaching hospitals and development organizations.
Offer Convenience for Collaboration
MassMEDIC and CAMDI will identify cooperative partners; facilitate exchange and collaboration between enterprises; and provide guidance in business development and investment, as well as arrange visits.
The Commonwealth's trade mission to China aims to strengthen innovation and collaboration around clean energy, life sciences, education and transportation. This visit will be the first in a series of steps Governor Patrick takes to strengthen the Massachusetts-China relationship.
The agenda includes meetings in Beijing and Shanghai with Chinese companies and universities focused on the Commonwealth's interest in China's academic, research and development and commercial achievements.
