For Immediate Release - August 31, 2009

Boston - Monday, August 31, 2009 - Governor Deval Patrick today announced he has named senior advisor Liz Morningstar as Secretary of Cabinet Affairs. Morningstar succeeds Arthur Bernard, who recently became the Governor's Chief of Staff. She will work with the cabinet secretaries to develop and implement the Governor's change agenda.

"Liz continues to be an excellent addition to my team," said Governor Patrick. "I will value her experience and insight as we continue forward with implementing a change agenda for Massachusetts."

Morningstar, a Charlestown resident, was the executive director of the Deval Patrick Committee for two years after he was elected Governor in 2006. She served as the Governor's chief political aide as the Governor took a leadership role in the Democratic Governors Association and worked to elect President Barack Obama. Morningstar was an early member of the Governor's campaign team. She previously worked on John Kerry's 2004 campaign, and served in the Clinton-Gore Administration, first in the White House, then for the US Agency for International Development and the Peace Corps.

Morningstar is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley with a degree in political science and communications in 1997, and she earned a masters degree in international affairs from Columbia University in 2004.
