STATEMENT OF GOVERNOR DEVAL PATRICK ON CHIEF JUSTICE MARSHALL'S RETIREMENT

BOSTON - Wednesday, July 21, 2010 - Governor Deval Patrick issued the following statement regarding Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall's announcement that she will retire from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court at the end of October:

"Chief Justice Marshall has served the people and the principles of this Commonwealth with exceptional integrity and grace. From fighting apartheid in her native South Africa to assuring equal rights through her service on our highest court, her career has been full and her dedication to the rule of law and the defense of human dignity is timeless. The Chief Justice's tenure has done great honor to the Court. She will be missed."
