BOSTON - Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - Governor Patrick today announced the nomination of Superior Court Associate Justice Judd J. Carhart as Associate Justice of the Appeals Court.

"I am very pleased to nominate such an experienced and respected trial court jurist to serve on the Appeals Court," Governor Patrick said. "I thank Judge Carhart on behalf of the Commonwealth for his dedication to the justice system and his willingness to continue to serve in this very important new role."

The Honorable Judd J. Carhart has served as an Associate Justice of the Superior Court since 1993. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he was the District Attorney in the Northwestern District of Massachusetts (Hampshire and Franklin Counties). Judge Carhart's career also includes many years of criminal and civil litigation experience in law firms in Boston and Springfield, and in the offices of the United States Attorney and the Norfolk County District Attorney. He is a graduate of Suffolk University Law School and the University of Massachusetts and is a resident of Florence, Massachusetts. Judge Carhart is slated to fill the vacancy on the Appeals Court created by the retirement of The Honorable Charlotte Ann Perretta.
