GOVERNOR PATRICK ANNOUNCES JUDICIAL NOMINATION TO BERKSHIRE JUVENILE COURT

BOSTON - Thursday, July 8, 2010 - Governor Patrick today nominated an experienced and well-respected prosecutor to be an Associate Justice of Berkshire Juvenile Court.

"I am honored to nominate Joan M. McMenemy to the Juvenile Court bench," Governor Patrick said. "Joan has devoted her legal career to the welfare of children and families. I thank her for her dedication to the Berkshire County community and her willingness to serve the Commonwealth in this very important judicial position."

Joan McMenemy has served the Commonwealth as an Assistant District Attorney for Berkshire County for over 16 years. She has been the Second Assistant District Attorney and Chief of the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit since 2005, and is a former Chief of the Juvenile Unit. McMenemy has a record of extensive community service in the Pittsfield area, and is a member of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters. She holds a B.A. degree from Vassar College and is a cum laude graduate of Suffolk University Law School. McMenemy is a resident of Pittsfield. She is slated to fill the vacancy on the Berkshire Juvenile Court created by the retirement of The Honorable Paul E. Perachi.
