GOVERNOR PATRICK ANNOUNCES NOMINATIONS TO THE SUPERIOR AND DISTRICT COURTS
BOSTON – Wednesday, November 14, 2012 – Governor Patrick today announced the nominations of two experienced attorneys to the trial court bench: Mary K. Ames as Associate Justice of the Superior Court; and Robert J. Pellegrini as Associate Justice of the Worcester District Court.
“These nominees will bring extraordinary expertise and commitment to the Superior and District Courts. They both have demonstrated a respect for the fair administration of justice throughout their extensive legal careers,” said Governor Patrick. “I am confident that they will be excellent judges and I thank them for their willingness to serve.”
Mary K. Ames has 30 years of litigation experience in both criminal and civil matters. She joined the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office in 1982 as an Assistant District Attorney and became the Senior Trial Counsel and Deputy Chief of the Homicide Division before leaving to begin her private practice in 1996. Since 1996, she has maintained an active litigation practice in Boston that includes serious felony trials as well as a wide variety of civil cases. Ames serves as pro bono counsel for Cops for Kids with Cancer. She is a graduate of Regis College (B.A., 1978) and New England School of Law (J.D., 1981) and a resident of Boston. If confirmed, Ames will fill the vacancy on the Superior Court created by the retirement of The Honorable Herman J. Smith, Jr.
Robert J. Pellegrini has practiced law for 28 years as both a civil and criminal litigator. He currently serves as a District Court Supervisor in the Worcester District Attorney’s Office. Pellegrini has been a prosecutor in the Worcester District Attorney’s Office since 1997 and also spent four years as an Assistant District Attorney in that office from 1984 to 1988. Pellegrini also engaged in private practice for nine years, including seven years as a civil litigator at the Boston firm of Morrison, Mahoney and Miller and two years as corporation counsel to Allmerica Financial (currently Hanover Insurance). Pellegrini is a graduate of University of Massachusetts, Boston (B.A., 1980) and New England School of Law (J.D., 1983) and a resident of Worcester. Pellegrini is slated to fill the vacancy on the Worcester District Court created by the retirement of The Honorable Neil G. Snider.
