GOVERNOR PATRICK AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR MURRAY MEET WITH PRIME MINSTER OF IRELAND ENDA KENNY

BOSTON – Friday, February 17, 2012 – Governor Deval Patrick and Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray today met with Prime Minster of Ireland Enda Kenny. The meeting builds on the Patrick-Murray Administration’s commitment to strengthening foreign partnerships, economic ties and job growth opportunities with countries across the world.

Prime Minister Kenny, officially known as the Taoiseach, was elected on March 9, 2011. He previously served as cabinet minister for tourism and trade and minister of state for education and labor. Prime Minister Kenny has also led the Irish political party Fine Gael since 2002 and is a two-term vice president of Fine Gael’s European affiliate, the European People’s Party.

Massachusetts and Ireland are close trade partners. In 2011, Massachusetts exported more than $1 billion of goods and services to Ireland and imported over $500 million of goods and services from Ireland.
