THURSDAY: LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR MURRAY TO ANNOUNCE FUNDING TO INCREASE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AT MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY BASES
BOSTON – Wednesday, January 16, 2013 – Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray will visit the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR) on Cape Cod, Thursday, January 17 at 12:00 p.m. to make an announcement relative to increasing energy efficiency for the state’s six military bases including MMR, Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, Barnes Air National Guard in Westfield, Natick Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Fort Devens, and Hanscom Air Force Base.
Prior to the announcement, media will have the opportunity to tour the new energy efficient Coast Guard hangar and its geo-thermal system, speak with alternative energy experts from MMR, and view displays on current MMR projects including wind turbines, solar arrays, and conservation techniques. Following Lieutenant Governor Murray’s funding announcement, media is also invited to join the Lt. Governor for a tour of the future site of a solar array on the base, a project that has the potential to be one of the most productive solar projects in Massachusetts.

1:30 p.m. Media opportunity to visit Wind I, one of three wind turbines at MMR. Wind I is a 390 ft Fuhrlaender 1.5 MW wind turbine constructed by the AFCEC program, located in the southwestern area of MMR and jointly funded by the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army.

Directions to the Main Gate in Bourne from the Boston area: Take Route 95 South to Route 24 South. Follow Route 24 South to Route 495 South. Route 495 becomes Route 25 South, 2 miles north of the Bourne Bridge. After crossing the Bourne Bridge, take the 2nd exit onto Route 28 South. Follow Route 28 South to the MMR Main Rotary, go 3/4s way around Rotary, following signs for the Veteran’s Cemetery/MMR. After exiting the Rotary, follow Connery Avenue to the Main Gate of the MMR.
