Governor Deval L. Patrick
MA Fallen Firefighters Memorial
Sunday, September 11, 2011

I am honored to join you today. To be present at a solemn occasion. A day when we acknowledge the service and sacrifice of firefighters and their families here in the Commonwealth.

We add 21 names to the Ring of Honor today. Among them two of our own who lost their lives in the line of duty: Ken Marshall, Jr. of Rehoboth and Lt. Tim Oliveira of Salisbury. We continue to pray for their families, and to wish that their hearts heal. We and all of this community are here for you.

Firefighters distinguish themselves every day. The anniversary of the attacks of 9/11 serve as a reminder that whether it's responding to tornados, floods, and hurricanes, or rushing into the burning towers of the World Trade Center. That is what you do. That is what you train for. It's what you sacrifice for. It's what your families hope and pray you will never have to face. And it humbles me beyond measure, just to be in your presence.

God bless you all. Thank you for your service to us.
