Register your family in DEERS.
Defense Enrollment Eligibility Systems (DEERS) is an
automated information system that contains detailed
personnel information for benefits and entitlements
distributed to uniformed services members, eligible
family members, retirees, and other personnel as directed
by the DoD. All service members are listed automatically,
but their dependents must be added when they apply
for an ID card. Military members will be required to
prove eligibility with the necessary documentation.
This may include: photocopies of marriage certificates
and birth certificates, copies of adoption papers,
paternity paperwork, divorce and death papers, certificate
of full time enrollment in college/university. Eligibility
is determined by the uniformed services. Contact your
nearest DEERS office for eligibility questions. To
find your local DEERS office please visit www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl/
Once
registered in DEERS it is important to keep your DEERS
records updated when personal eligibility information
changes. This includes, but not limited to: changes
in military career status, moves/changes address, marriage/divorce,
death, birth, adoption, or child over 21 enrolls as
a full-time student. The quickest and easiest way to
update DEERS is by visiting the Web site at https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/address/index.jsp.
