As the Chairs of the Health Disparities Council, we are proud to welcome you to the Council's website.
The Council was established in 2006 as part of Massachusetts' groundbreaking Health Care Reform Law. Our mission is to identify and recommend policies and actions to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health care and health outcomes and to achieve health equity for all Massachusetts residents.
The council's works builds on the report released by the Commission to End Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities in August of 2007. We have reviewed those recommendations and have tracked the progress toward their implementation. In 2009, the Council will develop a framework which will inform our future work to comprehensively address this complex problem. The Council will also monitor the state's progress in ending health inequality and issue an annual report card on health status and the implementation of policies that will further health equity in the Commonwealth.
As you navigate the site, you will find all the information presented at our public meetings, learn about other disparities-ending work conducted throughout our state, and learn more about what you can do to support this work. We want to hear from you and are eager for your suggestions and concerns.
Welcome again and thank you for your interest.
