The Mainstream Housing Program provides tenant-based housing assistance in the form of a Section 8/HCVP Voucher to very low- income disabled families and individuals.
DHCD's Division of Public Housing and Rental Assistance, which administers this program, has the responsibility for regulatory and administrative oversight of all state and federally-aided rental assistance programs which address the needs of low-income families, elderly and persons with disabilities.
How it works:
The program operates exactly like the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, with the exception that the head of household or spouse has a disability. Households are directly referred by disability and homeless service providers, who in turn provide assistance to the household.
Who is eligible:
Individuals and families with a head of household or spouse with a disability, who are Section 8/HCVP eligible.
Application process:
All applicants must referred to DHCD by a disability or homeless service provider.
Grants:
Up to 275 Mainstream subsidies are distributed by DHCD throughout the Commonwealth.
