  • Massachusetts Broadband Institute

    The Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) is working to extend affordable high-speed Internet access to all homes, businesses, schools, libraries, medical facilities, government offices and other public places across the Commonwealth. The MBI is building the MassBroadband 123 network to expand broadband connectivity to over 120 communities in western and north central Massachusetts. MassBroadband 123 is a critical component of Governor Patrick’s initiative to extend broadband access across the Commonwealth. The network will provide the necessary broadband infrastructure to foster economic growth, improve health care and education, and strengthen public safety.
  • Massachusetts Life Sciences Center

    The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) is a quasi-public agency of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, created by the Massachusetts legislature in June 2006. The MLSC was established to promote the life sciences within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is tasked with investing in life sciences research and economic development. This work includes making financial investments in public and private institutions growing life sciences research, development and commercialization as well as building ties between sectors of the Massachusetts life sciences community.

    The Office of Performance Management & Oversight (OPMO) measures the performance of all public and quasi-public entities engaged in economic development.  All agencies are required to submit an annual plan aligned with the Commonwealth's economic development strategy -- Choosing to Compete in the 21st Century.   Progress on goals and objectives are updated throughout the year at www.mass.gov/compete and included in each agency's annual report.
