REPRESENTATIVE POLITO of SHREWSBURY moves that the bill be amended by inserting after section 73, the following sections:

      “SECTION ##.  Subsection (nn) of section 89 of chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the 4^th paragraph, the following 3 paragraphs:— 

The commonwealth shall pay a tuition reimbursement amount to the districts sending students to a charter school, calculated as the difference of the tuition paid to the charter school by the sending district and the tuition amount allocated per pupil in the appropriate public school of the sending district. 

The commonwealth shall also pay excess administration costs to the sending district relative to the additional work provided by the sending district to process the transfer of any pupils being sent to a charter school.

The tuition amount owed by a sending district to a charter school shall be limited to 75% of the sum of the foundation budgets and adjusted foundation spending percentage to a maximum of $5,000 of the per pupil, multiplied by the total number of students attending the charter school from that district in the current fiscal year, provided that the tuition owed by a sending district shall exclude pupils who did not attend sending district public schools in the prior year but who were residents and eligible to attend public schools.
