In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any General or special law, or any rule
or regulation, to the contrary, all units of measure for all packaged commodities
necessary for personal, family or household use offered for sale in the Commonwealth at
retail and which may not be sold in retail stores unless there is posted, in a conspicuous
place at or near the point of sale shall, a uniformed unit of measure in pounds, ounces,
gallons, pints or other units of United States liquid and dry measure. All like products
must have the same unit of measure giving consumers a uniformed pricing comparison between said items.
The director of standards is authorized and directed to adopt regulations establishing all such uniform units of measure for all such packaged commodities sold in the Commonwealth. All such regulations shall become effective within one year of the effective date of this act.
Said director of standards shall issue a report to the House and Senate no later than February 3, 2008 on the effectiveness of the implementation of such uniform units of measure at retail stores and all rules and regulations which were necessary and adopted by said director. A copy of said report shall be sent to the House of Representatives and the Senate and the appropriate committees of the General Court for their review.
