In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act relative to encouraging students to stay in school.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

 

 

SECTION 1.

 

Chapter 741 of the acts of 1965 is hereby amended by striking, in line 3, the word “sixteen” and inserting in place thereof the following:--18; and by striking in line 12 the words “sixteen, respectively” and inserting in place thereof the following words:-- 18, or until graduation from high school, whichever occurs first.

 

SECTION 2.  

 

The department of education shall study the drop out rate of high school students over a period of five years and shall compile and submit a report and recommendations to the joint committee on education, and to the house and senate clerks on November 1st of each year after commencing on January 1, 2008.
