 An Act relative to school visitor safety.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

 

SECTION 1.

Chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, after Section 37N, the following section: -

               

Section 37O. School committees shall require that during school hours any person who is not a student or staff member who enters a school shall be considered a visitor and shall immediately report to the main office or other designated location.  All visitors shall provide identification and may, at the discretion of the principal or the principal's designee, be given permission to enter the building. The visitor shall sign out before leaving school grounds. School committees shall post notification of this policy on all outer doors of the school. Whoever violates the provisions of this section shall be fined $100.
