An Act relative to classroom placement of twins.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.

Chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, after section 89, the following section: -

Section 90. A parent or guardian of twins or higher order multiples may request that the children be placed in the same classroom or in separate classrooms, if the children are in the same grade level at the same school.  The school may recommend classroom placement to the parents and provide professional education advice to the parents to assist in making the best decision for their children's education; provided however, the school shall provide the placement requested by the children's parent or guardian.  The parent or guardian must request the classroom placement no later than 14 days after the first day of each school year or 14 days after the first day of attendance of the children during a school year, if the children are enrolled in the school after the school year commences.

For purposes of this section, "higher order multiples," shall mean triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets, or more.

SECTION 2.

The provisions of this act shall be effective 30 days prior to the beginning of the school year, subsequent to the year this act becomes law.
