An Act to promote civic engagement in the charter school approval process. |
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Subsection (i) of Section 89 of Chapter 71 of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding after the last sentence the following:
Provided further, that the Board of Education shall approve no charter without a formal indication of support for the application from the city council, or select board, town meeting or other representative body in the community where the charter school seeks to locate.
