 An Act Reforming the Selection of Presidential Electors.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1. Striking out chapter 54, section 151, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition of the General Laws, and inserting in place thereof the following new section:—
At the biennial state election in each year in which presidential electors are required to be elected, each political party shall select a number of electors, for President and Vice-President of the United States equal to the whole number of senators and representatives in congress to which the commonwealth is entitled. One presidential elector shall be chosen from each congressional district, and two presidential electors will be chosen at large. The officers of the party shall certify the names of the electors to the Secretary of State not later than the sixtieth day prior to the date of the elections and in a form to be prescribed by him. Said Secretary shall certify to all city and town clerks and election commissioners the names of the electors designated for the office of president and vice-president, the presidential electors at large shall cast their ballots for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates who received the largest number of votes in the commonwealth. The presidential electors of each congressional district shall cast their ballots for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates who received the largest number of votes in their respective congressional district.
