Resolve providing for an investigation and study by a special commission relative to automobile insurance fraud in the commonwealth. |
Resolved,
That a special commission to consist of 3 members of the senate, 5 members of the house of representatives, the registrar of motor vehicles or his designee, the commissioner of insurance or his designee and 3 members to be appointed by the governor is hereby established for the purpose of making an investigation and study relative to automobile personal injury fraud perpetrator, detection, prevention and prosecution in the commonwealth. The members of the commission shall serve without compensation but shall receive their necessary expenses incurred in the discharge of their official duties. The commission shall be provided with offices.
The commission may employ an executive director, legal counsel and such other assistance as it may deem necessary, subject to appropriation. The commission may accept and expend any appropriations, g rants of money, professional services, consultant services, clerical or other services and supplies from the commonwealth in the course of the inv3estigations. The commission and its staff may travel within and without of the commonwealth.
Said commission shall file its initial report to the general court containing the results of its investigation and study and its recommendations, if any, together with drafts of legislation necessary to carry its recommendations into effect, by filing the same with the clerk of the house of representatives on or before March 1, 2007 and shall file its final report with such drafts on or before December 1, 2007.
