In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act relative to the operation of hybrid vehicles in the Commonwealth.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1. Not withstanding any General Law to the contrary, the operator of any motor vehicle utilizing hybrid technology may operate such a vehicle in any lane previously designated for High-Occupancy Vehicles, regardless of the number of passengers accompanying the operator.

                For purposes of this act, the following words shall have the following meanings:-

“hybrid technology”, referring to a combination of an internal combustion engine utilizing gasoline/diesel or an alternative fuel mixture with battery derived electric power and a mechanism for storing energy expended in braking or battery electricity technology;

“battery electricity technology”, referring to the utilization of battery electricity as a main power source.
