In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act relative to pay as you drive auto insurance.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1. Section 113B of chapter 175 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting the following: The commissioner is authorized and directed to allow insurance companies to offer automobile insurance on a “pay as you drive” or “cost per mile” basis for coverage for losses caused by collision or other driving related accidents.

SECTION 2. The Commissioner of Insurance shall commission a study of the benefits of allowing drivers to purchase automobile insurance on a “pay as you drive” or “cost per mile” basis. Said study shall be completed and shall be submitted to the Joint Committee on Insurance no later than January 1, 2008.
