In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act concerning resident tuition for public institutions near state borders.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1.

The Higher Education Coordinating Council shall conduct a study to determine the effect of current non-resident tuition rates on enrollment at public institutions of higher education near state borders. Said study shall include a comparison of tuition charges by neighboring states’ public institutions of higher education and shall make recommendations on changes it deems appropriate to current resident/non-resident tuition charges including possible exceptions for residents of neighboring states.
Said study and recommendations shall be completed prior to the establishment of tuition rates for the Academic Year 2007 and shall be filed with the House and Senate Committees on Ways and Means.
