In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act relative to increasing the jurisdictional amount in small claims cases.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1.  Section 21 of chapter 218 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the words “two thousand dollars”, in lines 6 and 35, and inserting in place thereof in both instances the following figures:-- $5,000.

 

SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect upon passage and shall apply only to such cases as are filed on or after said effective date.  Nothing in this act shall be construed to deprive any court of this commonwealth of jurisdiction over any case filed prior to the effective date of this act.
