Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 57 of chapter 276 of the General Laws as appearing in the 2004 official edition is hereby amended by adding at the end thereof the following paragraph:
Bail amounts ordered to be posted in excess of $10,000.00 shall only be posted in one or more of the following manners:
(a) by cashier’s or treasurer’s check drawn on a chartered state or federal banking institution or credit union only upon confirmation by an officer of the bank that said funds are good and available and have been segregated from the surety’s account;
(b) by certified check in any amount ordered drawn on a chartered state or federal banking institution or credit union; or
(c) by surety bond issued by an insurance carrier or surety company duly licensed to do business within this commonwealth.
United States currency shall not be accepted for bail amounts ordered to be posted in excess of $10,000.00.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
