In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act relative to disciplinary periods for certain violations.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1. Chapter 279 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after Section 4B, the following section, 4C:—
Any person convicted of a violent crime shall serve a disciplinary period of punishment equal to 180 days for each year of the minimum sentence ordered for said crime. A person convicted of a violent crime shall not, until he shall serve the disciplinary period, be eligible for probation, parole, furlough, work release, or receive any deduction from his sentence for good conduct under sections one hundred and twenty-nine, one hundred and twenty-nine A, one hundred and twenty-nine C and one hundred and twenty-nine D of Chapter one hundred and twenty-seven.
“Violent crime” shall be defined for the purposes of this section only as, “any crime that carries the potential for life sentence”.
