Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1: Section 97A of chapter 143 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after paragraph (a) the following paragraph:-
The board of building regulations and standards shall require the owner of any building or structure or portion thereof, that includes a place of business designed or used for occupancy as a nightclub, sports complex, dance hall, discoteque, bar, or for similar entertainment purposes, to install a luminescence egress route to all emergency exits and be placed at floor level. Said egress routes shall be powered by electricity and have a back up battery in case of a power failure. Said egress route systems shall meet state building code and fire code standards for heat resistance to be a viable safety path in extreme fire and smoke events.
