In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act authorizing legislative employees to provide volunteer services.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provision of any general or special law to the contrary, each employee of the house of representatives is hereby authorized, to perform volunteer service at a non-profit, charitable, social, human service, community based or other civic organization for up to 8 hours per month and be entitled to receive his regular pay and benefits for such volunteer activity.  The scheduling of such volunteer service must be approved in writing by the employee’s supervisor who shall determine the work needs of the employee’s department.  The volunteer organization must be approved by the office of House personnel prior to rendering such volunteer services and the performance of the volunteer activity must be verified and documented by the House office of personnel.
