In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act relative to police career incentive pay program.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1. Section 108L of chapter 41 of the General Laws is hereby repealed as of July 1, 2011.
All regular full time members of the various city and town police departments, uniformed members of the state police, and all state police detectives appointed after July 1, 2007 shall be required to have a baccalaureate degree by July 1, 2011. All such persons appointed thereafter shall be required to have a baccalaureate degree upon appointment.
All regular full time members of the various city and town police departments, uniformed members of the state police and state police detectives promoted July 1, 2007 shall be required to have a masters or degree in law July 1, 2011. All such persons promoted thereafter shall be required to have a masters degree or degree in law upon promotion.
The provisions of this section shall not apply to members of the various city and town police departments, uniformed members of the state police and state police detectives in service on July 1, 2007.
