In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act relative to vital records.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1. Any native American Indian whose certified birth record or copy thereof contains a racial designation that is incorrect or missing may, without payment of a fee obtain one certified copy of her or his birth record from which such incorrect racial designation has been removed or corrected. The person requesting the birth record shall provide satisfactory proof from a Native American Indian authority, or sworn and notarized statement to substantiate their Native American Indian ancestry.
The certificate issued shall not be marked or designated “amended” solely for the reason set forth in this section.
This Act shall take effect upon passage.
