In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act relative to motor vehicle excise tax.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1.  Section 1 of chapter 60A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the first paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-

 

Except as hereinafter provided, there shall be assessed and levied in each calendar year on every motor vehicle and trailer registered under chapter 90, for the privilege of such registration, an excise measured by the value thereof, as hereinafter defined and determined, at the rate of 25 dollars per thousand of valuation.

 

For the purpose of this excise the value of each such motor vehicle or trailer shall be deemed to be the purchase price but not in excess of the following percentages of the purchase price.

 

                In the year of sale                                                                90 per cent

                In the second year                                                               60 per cent

                In the third year                                                    40 per cent

                In the fourth year                                                 25 per cent

                In the fifth and succeeding years                      10 per cent

 

SECTION 2.  Said section 1 of said chapter 60A, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out the third paragraph.
