 An Act relative to the transportation of animals in motor vehicles. .

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

 

SECTION 1.  Section 22 H of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting at the end thereof the following:- 

No person shall transport an animal in the interior of a motor vehicle unless the animal or animals are securely contained by a harness, or within a pet carrier or cage. Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50.00) for the first offense, and not more than two hundred dollars ($200.00) for each subsequent offense.  The provisions of this law shall not apply to motorists in emergency situations.
