An Act relative to the modernization of Registries of Deeds.

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to modernize registries of deeds, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Section 31 of chapter 9 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the fourth and fifth sentences and inserting in place thereof the following 2 sentences:—  From March 15, 2003 through June 30, 2011, all surcharges on fees collected pursuant to this section shall be forwarded to the Registers Technology Fund, established in section 2JJJ of chapter 29.  From July 1, 2011, all of the surcharges shall be forwarded to the General Fund as provided in section 2 of said chapter 29.
