In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act Relative to the Board of Selectmen in the town of Newbury.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of chapter 41 of the General Laws, or any other special or general law, rule or regulation to the contrary, the town of Newbury is hereby authorized to increase the membership of its board of selectmen from 3 members elected for staggered 3 year terms to 5 members elected for staggered 3 year terms beginning with the annual town election in 2007. At that election, 3 members shall be elected to join the then 2 incumbents on the board and the candidate receiving the highest vote would have a 3 year term, the next highest a 2 year term and the third a 1 year term.

 

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
