In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

 An Act Providing for a Real Estate Transfer Tax in the Town of Chatham.

 

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


 

Notwithstanding the provisions of any general or special law to the contrary, the Town of Chatham is hereby authorized to impose, collect, and disburse a fee equal to one percent of the purchase price upon the transfer of any real property interest in any real property situated in the Town.  The fee shall be the liability of the buyer of the real property interest.  The fees so generated shall be dedicated to costs associated with the expansion of the Town’s sewer system, including its collection and treatment facilities.
